EGGER and Kronospan have made large investments in recent years in their OSB capacities in Romania. Kronospan produces yearly approximately 350,000 cubic meters of OSB at Brașov, meanwhile at Rădăuți, EGGER has a close production capacity of 340,000 cbm.
The two companies now cover almost all Romanian OSB exports, and also managed to make Romania the largest OSB exporter in the European Union. In 2013, Romania overtook Germany from the leading position, with an overall OSB export value of 176,7 million and a booming year-on-year increase of 62% (2013: EUR 108,8 million). Germany came on second with OSB exports worth EUR 138,2 million, while the Czech Republic is on third with a total export value in 2013 of EUR 110 million.
In 2013, 28 percent of the overall Romanian OSB shipments went to Russia, which is the largest export destination. A 16% share of OSB exports went to Ukraine, 10,5% to Turkey and 9% to Poland.
