Germany: Douglas fir log price index rises more steeply

Alternativtext The German producer price indices for Douglas fir continued their upward trend in January 2022, in some cases more strongly. On average, the log index increased by 5.4% compared to December to a level of 76.3 points. B quality increased by 4.6% to 93.2 points. 3 m lengths recorded an increase of 8.9% to 97.2 points, while 4/5 m lengths increased by 2.2% to 85 points.

C ranges achieved a level of 64.7 points with an increase of 4.2%. 3 m lengths increased by 3.4% and reached a score of 69.8. B/C ranges recorded an increase of 6.2% to 72.8 points.

Alternativtext Douglas fir pulp wood increased by 3.7% to 59.2 points in January. Pine pulpwood recorded an increase of 7.1% to 84.3 points. Spruce pulpwood rose by 5.9% to a value of 81.1 points. The softwood pulpwood index increased by 6.3% to 80.8 points.

Year-on-year the Douglas fir index gained 22.7%, B grades 26.1%. 3m lengths increased by 24.3%, while 4/5m lengths increased by 23.2%. C grades were up 18.5% with 3m lengths up 25.5%. B/C qualities exceeded the previous year's figure by 21.8%. The Douglas fir pulpwood index was up 21.6% from January 2021.
