The 13th softwood tender of the Bavarian state forest administration in Fichtelberg/Northern Bavaria which took place on the 3rd of December 2008 brought only small price reductions. The offer of the Bavarian state forest administration amounted to 590 m3. In addition, there were also 470 m3 of value softwood offered by the private and corporate forests.

In detail, the offer of the state forest enterprises consisted of:
- approx. 310 m3 spruce logs in 286 lots;
- approx. 250 m3 pine logs in 302 lots;
- approx. 30 m3 larch logs in 31 lots.

The offer consisted mainly of woods of diameter class 4,5 and 6 and was mostly focused on diameter class 5. The majority of the logs were 5.0 m long, with only a few of 4.50 m. The single logs were bid, every lot consisted of a single log. Despite the difficult general conditions, spruce came in second and pine and larch in third best results of the 13 year-old history of the softwood tender after last year’s record results.

The best spruce logs were sold for 274.- Euro/m3. The most expensive pine log was sold for 258.- Euro/m3 and the most expensive spruce log for 326.- Euro/m3.

The bidders circle was slightly smaller than the previous year. Eighteen (22 in 2007) companies, mostly long-time regular customers, placed bids at the tender. Except for one bidder all customers obtained logs for their bids. The most expensive log of the softwood tender was a larch of 53 m3 from the state owned forest in Coburg with 1,10 m3 and was sold for 326.- Euro/m3.
